when one drives a car
or walks
or rides a train
or, perhaps, even zooms across the continent in an airplane
it is sometimes fun to watch
how certain things around
seem to move faster
than others
of course
our sense of things tells us that
it is us who moves
but it seems as if the things move, too
and in relation to each other
even just standing perfectly still, and merely turning your head
can produce the desired effect
(or perhaps it is really an affect)
one tree, close to you
will move right
while the one behind it moves left
our sense of things tells us that
neither us
nor them
are moving
and this is true, of course
it is our perspective that moves
and the whole world along with it
